Brava is a volcanic island and is one of the 22 municipalities of Cape Verde, it is the smallest of the inhabited islands of Cape Verde located in the Sotavento archipelago and has approximately 5,995 inhabitants. It is also called the "flower island" because of its rich flora and fauna. The capital of the municipality is the city of Nova Sintra, which is named after Sintra, a place in Portugal.
The island of Brava does not have its own airport. The Aerodrome de São Felipe is located on the nearby island of Fogo. There is a boat connection to São Felipe from Furna. The journey takes less than an hour. There is still little tourism on the island. It is mainly a place for hiking and those seeking peace and quiet, with few tourist facilities, but with a local atmosphere.
In addition to the fact that the treasurer was born and raised in Brava, the chairman and founder is also of Cape Verdean descent and the secretary has warm feelings for Cape Verde.
In the thirty years that the treasurer has lived on Brava, she has seen and experienced with her own eyes how human lives are lost due to, for example, lack of transport and the inability to provide help on time, and also the need for care. residents are forced to travel to the neighboring islands and often even have to go to nearby neighboring countries for the right care. Those who have the money or support (for example from family abroad) can afford it all, but for those who do not have the means at their disposal, there is no other option than to hope for a miracle.
These are a number of reasons that made the founders decide to jointly start a foundation to save as many lives as possible, because every life counts as our motto says!
We want to start with Brava but eventually also the rest of the archipelago.
We hope to be able to offer the miracle that people are waiting for.
